Ronald McDonald House of Iowa City
Volunteer Description

PURPOSE: To help provide a supportive environment for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House. To assist House staff with daily activities at the RMH.

DUTIES/
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Greet families and visitors.
2. Orient families to the RMH.
3. Interact with and assist families.
4. Run various errands for families and the House.
5. Light housekeeping tasks.
6. Baking and/or cooking opportunities.
7. Receive and put away donations.
8. Special event planning and assistance as needed.
9. Contact the RMH office if unable to cover the scheduled shift.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
1. Positive, friendly attitude.
2. Empathetic listener.
3. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
4. Reliable, predictable.

TRAINING: Each volunteer attends a RMH Volunteer Orientation.

TIME COMMITMENT: Volunteers at the RMH are scheduled for a three-hour shift. Four shifts are available: 9:00 a.m. to noon; noon to 3:00 p.m.; 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.; and, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed seven days a week and can volunteer once per week or every other week. A six-month commitment is strongly preferred. Reliable attendance is vital for our program.

Please note: It is very important that volunteers not come to the RMH when they have communicable illnesses. This includes colds, strep throat, fever blisters, influenza, chicken pox, measles, and pink eye (conjunctivitis) or exposure to any such diseases that may be carried and communicated to others. Children with suppressed immune systems stay at the House and such illnesses can be life threatening to them.
